Stages of colon cancer are: Stage 0 The tumor hasn't moved from where it started -- still restricted to the innermost layer of the colon. Stage I The tumor has extended beyond the innermost layer of the colon into the middle layers of the colon. Stage IIA The tumor has grown into the outermost layer of the colon, but has not spread beyond the colon. Stage IIB The tumor has moved beyond the colon into nearby organs. It has not spread to the nearby lymph nodes or distant tissues / organs. Stage IIIA The tumor has not grown through the outermost layers of colon, and it has spread into 1-3 nearby lymph nodes but not to distant tissues / organs. Stage IIIB The tumor has grown into the outermost layer of the colon or through the wall of the colon. It has spread into at least 3 lymph nodes. Stage IIIC The tumor has spread into 4 more more lymph nodes. It has not spread into distant tissues / organs. Stage IV The tumor has spread into other parts of the body.
