The aim of this site is to present cancer information in a way that patients can easily understand. Common cancer types are discussed. For each cancer, we present an overview, and list symptoms, stages, and treatment options available.

For many people, the first reaction when finding out they have cancer is to rush into the first treatment option available. This is not the best idea. The treatment option your first doctor suggests will obviously be tilted towards when he or she is most familiar with. For example, a surgeon is more likely to suggest surgery, and a radiologist is most likely to suggest radiation therapy. To them, it makes the most sense because that's what they are most familiar and comfortable with. As a patient, though, you should talk to additional doctors to find out if other treatment methods may be more desirable.

For each cancer type discussed here, we first present an overview, including how that cancer is diagnosed. Then, we discuss the symptoms, stages, and treatment available for each cancer type.

In addition to the convention treatment methods mentioned in this site, there are also alternative / complementary treatments available for cancer patients. Examples of such treatments include acupuncture, dietary supplement, yoga, and meditation. There is so far no scientific proof that these types of treatment can cure cancer, but they may lessen the discomfort associated with the cancer treatment or the cancer itself. Make sure you speak to your doctor before undergoing alternative / complementary treatments.

Another option for cancer patients is to participate in clinical trials. The advantages of participating in clinical trials are that the patient will have access to new treatment methods not yet available to the general public, and depending on the clinical trail, your cost may be covered. The disadvantage is that, because those are new treatment options, they are not proven and there are inherent risks associated with these treatments.
